Rice Upma & Almonds Halwa

If you are fasting in Karthika masam daily and eating one time a day ,you may not spend more time wasting   your energy for cooking so this may help you to cook your food quickly giving you the strength needed even when you eat once a day  .
Rice Upma:
This is a different type of upma rather than the usual one made with Sooji.This can be considered healthy than the Sooji upma as it is made from rice.Unlike Sooji Upma this can be taken with curd,pickle,sambhar according to your taste .

Ingredients:

Rice (Sona masuri or any rice) 1 cup
Moong dal 1/4 cup
Green chilies 8
Ginger a small piece
Black gram 1 table spoon
Bengal Gram 1 table spoon
Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon
Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
Canola /vegetable Oil 2 table spoons
Ghee 1/4 table spoon
Curry leaves 20
Red chilies (optional) 2

Cooking Time:

Preparing Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time : 20 minutes

Method:

Step 1: Wash the rice and drain the water and let it dry for some time like 5 or 10 minutes .When its dry take a blender and blend rice roughly . Don't over blend ,it would make your recipe a paste rather than looking like upma
Step 2: Take a deep skillet add oil and heat it.When the oil is ready add the tempering and when it sputters add green chilies,ginger and curry leaves .
Step 3:Fry them for a minutes  add moong dal ,fry for a minute and then add  the roughly grinded rice powder
Step 4: Fry the rice powder for a minute or two then add three cups of water , salt for taste and cover with a lid 
Step 5: Sim the stove and cook until done
Step 6: When done add ghee on top and serve hot

Almonds  Halwa:





Ingredients:

2 cups Almonds
2 1/2 cups Sugar
Safforn strands few
1 cup Ghee
1 cup Milk


Cooking Time:

Preparing Time :10 minutes
Cooking Time:20 minutes

Method:

Step 1: Soak Almonds in hot water for a hour and leave it ,soak saffron strands in water.
Step 2: Peel them and  grind to a paste with the milk.
Step 3: Make sugar syrup in a thick bottomed pan  and boil till it reaches a one string consistency.
Step 4: Add the almonds paste and cook till it thickens.
Step 5:  Now add the saffron along with water
Step 6: Add ghee little by little stirring continuously on low heat
