Coconut Rice & Peas Bonda

Coconut Rice 
You might have tried this rice item with garlic which yields  ultimate taste .As this is karthika masam try this recipe .You can eat this with curd or cucumber raita . Karthika masam fasting is different and unique  when compared to any other fasting as this is the only fasting we can eat Rice and Curd or any snacks if we wish after breaking the fast. 


Rice(basmati) 1 cup
Coconut Flakes fresh or dry 3 table spoons
bay leaves 2
Cloves 2
Cardamon 3
Ginger piece 
Cumin seeds 1/4 teaspoon
Mustard Seeds 1/4 table spoon
Red peppers 3
Green chilies 5
Ghee 2 table spoon
Cilantro 1/8 of a bunch
Cashews 10 or 15 
Curry leaves 10
Oil 2 table spoons
Salt for taste

Cooking Time :

Preparing Time : 5 Minutes
Cooking Time : 25 minutes


Step 1: Take a cooker and cook rice 
Step 2: Take a blender ,blend ginger,green chilies,cilantro into a smooth paste 
Step 3: Take a skillet  add a tablespoon of ghee and oil and heat it
Step 4:When the oil is ready add the the spices taken and when sputters add cashews ,when they turn light brown add the curry leaves and coconut flakes
Step 5: Leave it for about a minute , add cooked rice and toss it 
Step 6:Finally add salt for taste and remaining ghee , toss again .Serve hot  .

Peas Bonda:

Referring to its name it may sound like a variety dish but its a tasty and general dish and worth trying


Green Peas 1/2 cup 
Green chilies 5
Ginger a small piece
Cilantro 1/8 cup chopped
Coconut flakes 1 teaspoon
Salt for taste 
Sugar 1 teaspoon
Potato 1 large boiled and mashed
All purpose flour 4 tablespoons
Chick pea Flour 6 table spoons
Rice flour 2 table spoons
Oil for deep frying

Cooking Time :

Preparing Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time :20 minutes


Step 1: Take peas and add sufficient water  to them and microwave or boil  until peas are tender .Drain the remaining water and let them dry.take a large potato peel it and boil ,when cool make into a smooth mash 
Step 2:  Take a blender add chilies,ginger make into a smooth paste .Now blend green peas into a rough paste (as you have dried them it may look like powder)
Step 3: Take deep skillet add oil for deep fry and heat it
Step 4: Now take another skillet add a  table spoon of oil and when ready add the green peas paste and green chilies paste to it and fry it for two or three minutes 
Step 5:Finally add the mashed potato paste to it.Add salt and sugar and fry it for another 3 minutes 
Step 6:Switch off the stove and let the mixture cool
Step 7: Take a bowl and make batter with taken flours into bajji batter consistency 
Step 8:When the mixture cools add chopped cilantro and make into small balls.When the oil is ready dip the balls in batter and fry them until golden brown in color .
