DIY: Phone wallet case With Felt

Do you love the texture of felt ?????
I wondered why haven't I used in crafts all these days and finally came up with this idea of making a Phone wallet case for my self and my idea turned out to be successful .
This is a very easy project even if you are sewing for the first time (as this is my first experience ), just a little patience and some creativity is all that is required ...........

Felt is a textile that is produced by matting, condensing and pressing fibres together. Felt can be made of natural fibres such as wool or synthetic fibres such as acrylic. There are many different types of felts for industrial, technical, designer and craft applications. While some types of felt are very soft, some are tough enough to form construction materials. Felt can vary in terms of fibre content, colour, size, thickness, density and more factors depending on the use of the felt.

Dealing and crafting with felt is   a little tricky  as it stretches  to some some extents but it is thicker than many other type of fabrics so,to get a sharp edgy cut go for sharp tools.

If sewing felt , you might have to use medium weight needle which makes the stitch perfect for its compact fabric texture .

Here I   would like to show you my first hand sewing experience with Felt ( I made a lot of research about felt ,before making this  project ) . I stitched using blanket stitch as it is easy and I am sewing for first time ..........

All you need:::
Two or three high quality felt  sheets ( You can go for craft felt too)
Medium weight needle
One thread (color of your choice )
One Button
One scissors
One ruler

OPTIONAL:
Some embellishments of your choice
Fabric glue
  • Select your felt. Now make a rough sketch for your project about what to cut and where to sew with measurements and details , this helps to complete your project easily without confusion .

  •  I have selected two patterned felts , One for the outside and another one for inside layering .

  • Now trace the measurements  for your wallet using the sketch you prepared  , and cut the inner and outer layers . To  get straight lines always use a ruler .
  • Trace the card holder and phone holder respectively , (I used same color you can go for other colors )
  • First stitch the card holder and phone holder in place to the inner layer firmly using blanket stitch

  • Sew the button to the outer layer .

  • Now carefully sew the two layers with a blanket stitch which is easier and pops a good look to felt .

  • Take a small patch of felt to make a closing  flap and attach it to the button that is sewed to the outer layer .
Inner side of the flap along with lace to tuck in with button

  • Your hand made  wallet case is ready :) with all your trendy mark on it .

  • You can play with any kind of embellishments  .
  • I have used  kundans (purple color) and some stud crystals for decoarting

Notes:
  • You can go for more additions to the case but be sure about the quality of the felt , as more sewing may make the fabric loose with holes .
  • If you can get a quality felt you can make more card holders by patching one on another (I will try this time)
  • You can go a snap flap type of closure even to the phone holder
  • You can even embellish the inner side of the pouch , play with your creativity
This may be  imperfect but I hope this will help to rise your spirit of creativity and imagination with great designs  .
