Tomato Stew (pulusu )

Tomatoes and onions are a  must haves in my kitchen counter ,and this is a spicy splatter of this combination.
This is my mom's recipe which is delectable with its great texture .
A perfect side dish to rice, flavored rice, curries, roti, idli, dosa .
This is a basic base to many gravy curries too, so, if you like you can throw in some boiled potatoes, green peas or cauliflower  or boiled eggs or just tofu  .
Being a simple ingredient base gravy or stew it does take very less time to cook .

Ingredients:
Tomatoes 8 to 10
Onions chopped finely 1 cup
Green chilies 5 to 6 slit lengthwise
Curry leaves few
Tamarind pulp according taste
Salt for taste
Turmeric 2 pinches
Red chili powder 1 table spoon
Mustard seeds 1/4 teaspoon
Cumin Seed 1/4 teaspoon
Coriander leaves few
Sugar (optional) 1 table spoon

Procedure:
Step 1: Bring a bowl of water to boil , then add in the tomatoes and boil them until the skin begins to peel off.
Step 2: Now let them cool, when cooled enough ,peel the skin on the tomatoes .

make them into smooth puree

Step 3:Now heat  a pan add in the tempering , when sputters add the chopped onions, green chillies, curry leaves and fry. When onions turn light brown color , add in the prepared puree along with 2 cups of water .
Bring it boil , add in red chili powder, salt, tamarind pulp, sugar(optional) , simmer the flame and let boil for 10 minutes.

Step 4:  Switch off the stove , garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot

Note:
  • If you want make this as a gravy don't add any extra water while boiling.
  • You can even add fried  meat
  • Simple  recipe with less ingredients gives best taste , try not to add any complicating ingredients .
